Accuray announced today that its iDMS Data Management System scored FDA clearance for use with its TomoTherapy system.

"We want to provide clinicians with options for seamless, fully integrated treatment planning and data management to enhance department workflow efficiency," Corey Lawson, vice president of product strategy at Accuray, told HCB News.

The iDMS System is a centralized database that connects treatment delivery systems and data. It provides a common interface between the TomoTherapy H Series and Radixact Treatment Delivery Systems as well as with the Accuray Precision Treatment Planning System.

Through the iDMS System, TomoTherapy users will be able to integrate with third-party applications, including RaySearch Laboratories' RayStation, third-party oncology information systems and treatment planning imaging systems.

On a single platform, clinicians can store and manage all of the patient and treatment planning data generated during the planning and treatment process. The iDMS System also allows clinicians to remotely view daily imaging reports and generate custom reports with DICOM data import/export and oncology information system interfaces.

It was originally cleared by the FDA in June 2016 along with the Radixact Treatment Delivery Platform and Accuray Precision Treatment Planning System. Together, these three solutions cover all aspects of the radiation treatment process.

Radixact has a more powerful linear accelerator and is capable of MVCT imaging and helical treatment delivery. That enables clinicians to apply highly conformal and homogenous dose distributions to any target volume, while sparing healthy tissue during each treatment fraction.

The Precision planning system is equipped with automated workflows and mid-course decision-making tools. Clinicians can use those tools to adapt treatment delivery to any changes in tumor size, shape and location.

"[The iDMS System] expands patient access to the precision and treatment versatility of our advanced radiation therapy delivery systems," said Lawson.
