Shimadzu Medical Systems USA acquires Core Medical Imaging

Shimadzu Medical Systems USA has acquired Core Medical Imaging to help expand its North American business, calling the deal a "key part" of that growth strategy.

Kenmore, Washington-based Core Medical Imaging is a successful provider of numerous medical imaging products, and has been an authorized dealer of Shimadzu since the year 2000. Its focus has been on the Northwest U.S.

“As our average life expectancy becomes longer, medical imaging technology and systems are gaining a more significant role in supporting healthier lives throughout this aging society by detecting diseases earlier, diagnosing more precisely and supporting less invasive treatments to minimize the patients’ burden while maximizing their quality of life,” Shimadzu said in a statement, noting that the new investment will further the firm's “direct involvement in the North American healthcare market.”

In September, 2018, Shimadzu Medical Systems USA teamed up with Change Healthcare in a partnership to let Shimadzu offer Change Healthcare Cardiology Hemo, with its Trinias line of angiography systems.

“We are proud to solidify a partnership with Change Healthcare, and extend the capabilities of their cardiology hemodynamics solution to achieve a shared initiative of providing healthcare organizations with solutions that help them meet their operational and quality initiatives,” Shimadzu Medical Systems director of Cardiology, North America, Tim Stevener said in a statement at the time.

In July, 2018, Shimadzu release its RADspeed fit, a new general radiography table system offering higher image quality than any other compact integrated system in its class, according to a company statement at the time.

The newest U.S.-based product in the RADspeed line, the RADspeed fit has an integrated tube stand, and offers a cost-effective balance of functionality to support a wide range of general rad applications, such as chest, abdomen, or extremities. It can be used to do emergency examinations, while offering the same operability features of other entries in the line, including extensive functionality for reducing exposure levels.

In June, 2018, Shimadzu launched its quadrupole time-of-flight (Q-TOF) LCMS-9030 system – a research-grade mass spectrometer yielding high-resolution, accurate-mass detection with fast data acquisition rates.

It employs the same engineering as Shimadzu's triple quadrupole (LC-MS/MS) platform integrated with TOF architecture able to “transform high mass accuracy workflows by achieving high-sensitivity, high-speed, and high-resolution detection,” according to the company.

“Our Q-TOF technology on the LCMS-9030 will push the boundaries further for high mass accuracy and high mass resolution detection, and will make an impact across all applications, from small molecule quantitation to complex intact protein analysis,” Shuzo Maruyama, general manager of Shimadzu's Analytical and Measuring Instruments Division, said in a statement at the time.
