Charles Wiener, M.D., professor of medicine and physiology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, has been named to a two-year term as the president of Johns Hopkins Medicine International (JHI), the division of Johns Hopkins Medicine that develops high-impact international health care collaborations and provides medical concierge services for patients who travel from other regions to receive care at Johns Hopkins.
Dr. Wiener previously held the role of JHI’s vice president of academic affairs and vice president of Asia operations, leading multiple global projects at JHI, including strategic planning, oversight of educational infrastructure planning and medical training. He is a highly respected leader, clinician and award-winning educator.
His impressive 27-year tenure with Johns Hopkins Medicine includes serving as chair of the committee that created the school of medicine’s “Genes to Society” curriculum, and as director emeritus of the Osler Internal Medicine Training Program, the first U.S. medical residency program.
He will assume his new role Jan. 1, 2019, following the retirement of Pamela Paulk, who served as JHI’s president since 2015.

Dr. Wiener is an associate editor of the American Journal of Medicine and has authored the last four editions of the Harrison’s Principals of Internal Medicine Self-Assessment and Board Review.
He received a bachelor’s degree from Duke University and a medical degree from the University of Miami. He is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and critical care medicine.
