ContextVision unveils AI-powered image enhancement for radiography

ContextVision has launched an AI-powered image enhancement product for digital radiography that displays a more consistent look between patients, different types of anatomy and different exposure levels.

The Swedish company debuted the product, called Altumira, at the recent RSNA annual meeting in Chicago.

“We have realized that there are some challenges,” Anita Tollstadius, ContextVision’s president and chief executive officer, told HCB News during an interview at the meeting. “Doctors don’t want to have different looks from different anatomies, different patients and throughout dynamic processes, and they really don’t want to retake images either. We can have a very robust, trustworthy, consistent look whether you have different exposures, or dosing, or different patients and different anatomies.”

The product can be used in all digital radiography systems, from plain, static X-⁠ray to more advanced angiography systems.

“We’ve seen many situations where the dynamic image has had big differences, when you go through the body and it’s very dark in certain areas,” Tollstadius said. “It’s very nice to be able to follow the procedure throughout the process.”

The software looks at the raw image and identifies the important areas that need to be optimized, said Ann-Sofi Hoff, marketing and product portfolio manager for ContextVision. It learned through several thousands of images with great variation in intensity and dose levels.

Altumira will available for sale to imaging OEMs in April.
