Philips will oversee management services
for medical imaging equipment used by two
Australian providers
Royal Philips has agreed to provide managed equipment services for the medical imaging equipment of two providers in Australia as part of strategic partnerships established with each for the next 20 years.

The Dutch-based multinational manufacturer will deliver, upgrade, optimize, replace and maintain solutions utilized by Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District and Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District in New South Wales. The two, separate collaborations are each a first-of-its-kind partnership implemented by the enterprise for medical imaging in Australia and the ASEAN Pacific region.

“These long-term strategic agreements will allow us to innately support our partners’ objectives of providing outstanding, innovative and future-proofed healthcare to their communities, by making them better informed, more efficient and more sustainable,” Caroline Clarke, CEO, Philips ASEAN Pacific, said in a statement. “This first-of-its-kind service delivery model for Philips in Australia highlights how we are transitioning to becoming an integrated solutions and services provider that teams up in a shared framework to accelerate change in a new era of value-driven care.”

Under both agreements together, Philips will support precision diagnosis and therapy while driving operational performance across nine hospital sites, aiming to enhance patient experience, manage population health and manage budgets properly to deliver the right care in the right place at the right time, in accordance with the core objectives of each local health district.

It will oversee structural management of the entire inventory of diagnostic and interventional medical imaging equipment for each, as well as their clinical informatics solutions, across various clinical areas such as radiology, cardiology and nuclear medicine. This includes solutions manufactured by other vendors.

It also will provide financing services and support both with PerformanceBridge Practice, its integrated data analytics solution for aggregating and connecting data from across different imaging modalities and information systems. In addition, each will be able to monitor and optimize radiation exposure to both patients and caregivers with the use of the DoseWise Portal, a radiation dose management solution.

The news of the first-of-its-kind partnerships follows the recent implementation of the first Philips Tasy EMR system in Australia in July, at St. Andrew's Toowoomba Hospital in Queensland.

“We will fully digitize its entire care management processes and enable anytime, anywhere access to clinical analytics that help to continuously improve safety and patient outcomes," Yair Briman, business leader, Healthcare Informatics at Philips, said at the time in a statement. "Our technology with advanced real-time risk assessment and decision-making aims to empower physicians, nurses and other medical professionals to make fast and confident diagnosis, treatment and follow-up decisions in all the different phases of the patient journey, from prevention to acute care.”
