Royal Philips is set to oversee the largest medical technology project to take place in Europe at the Kliniken der Stadt Köln (Clinics of Cologne) as one of two strategic agreements made this month with German healthcare providers.

The Dutch-based manufacturer will carry out deliveries, upgrades, replacement and maintenance services for the Munich hospital’s advanced imaging solutions on a 15-year basis and enhance its radiology workflow by ensuring greater quality, efficiency, and patient and staff satisfaction are met. It will also procure new and replacement medical imaging equipment for Städtische Klinikum München, another Munich-based provider, and offer maintenance and service for the next eight years.

“Both agreements are aimed to further improve outcomes regarding the quality and efficiency of care, as well as patient and staff satisfaction at these hospital groups,” Joost Maltha, a Philips spokesperson, told HCB News. “With the Städtische Klinikum München, strategies will be developed and implemented to support the hospital in digitizing its operations and enabling streamlined connected care across locations and medical disciplines. In the Kliniken der Stadt Köln, Philips will help with identifying cost savings and with optimization of the clinic's operating procedures in radiology."

Valued at over $105 million (approximately €90 million), the Kliniken der Stadt Köln deal will oversee the procurement of new and replacement medical imaging technology at its three clinic locations: Holweide, Merheim and the Children’s Hospital Amsterdamer Strasse.

Philips will also help plan the implementation of a new radiology-unit, including a new building construction in Merheim, and optimize the clinic’s operating radiology procedures for children and adults.

Additionally, maintenance and service will be provided to staff along with strategy and operational consultancy to help identify cost-saving measures and improve the quality and efficiency of care.

The Städtische Klinikum München agreement, worth more than $58 million (approximately €50 million), will oversee the renewal of 200 imaging systems throughout the hospital group as well as the development and implementation of support strategies for digitizing operations and enabling seamless connected care across locations and medical disciplines.

In addition, Philips will offer strategic consultancy services and evaluate department designs and care pathways to optimize planning, technology utilization, clinical processes, treatment outcomes, and patient and staff experiences.
