Carestream Health is now shipping its MyVue Center Self-Service Kiosk, designed to provide patients quicker access to and management of their radiology reports and medical images.

The kiosk allows patients to print out or store on a USB drive their reports and images as soon as they are available, eliminating any anxiety they may be feeling and allowing them to address their health care needs quicker.

“The kiosk can be placed in the patient waiting area or a patient accessible area so at the patient’s convenience, they can come and retrieve the medical images and radiology reports,” Mike Cullinan, manager of product development and OEM partnerships for the medical print business at Carestream, told HCB News. “Depending on workflow, the patient doesn’t even need to come back. They will go to the kiosk to get their medical images from the exam that was just taken, and then they can access their radiology report, in many cases through a patient portal that the facility or imaging center might offer.”

Patients currently must set up a day and time to retrieve radiology reports from their provider, while technologists and administrative workers are tasked with outputting medical images on DVDs, CDs or medical film.

In using the kiosk, patients simply verify their identity using a bar code or by scanning a health care card, and then confirm their date of birth. The choice of media type for reports and images is at the discretion of the facility, radiology department or imaging department.

Information can also be shared with physicians, friends and family at facilities where MyVue Center is integrated with the Carestream MyVue patient portal. Through this, images and reports may be shared from web-enabled devices, such as laptops, tablets and mobile phones, or from the EMR portal of a health care provider.

The device consists of a terminal that patients interact with, which contains a simple user interface for identity verification. Medical images are often delivered from PACS, and reports are often sent from the RIS system, both of which are connected to the kiosk through its server software.

In automating the distribution of medical images and radiology reports to patients, providers are able to enhance productivity and reduce operating costs.

“With the adoption of the kiosk, there’s significant labor savings,” Cullinan said. The technological and administrative people don’t have to spend time to output the medical images. At the same time, there’s significant savings with the equipment. The service associated with the equipment and the materials used to distribute the images and the reports.”

The system is available on a monthly rental payment plan and will be on display at the 2017 Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) tradeshow. Carestream will also demonstrate the capabilities of its Workflow Orchestrator and display its DRX-Transportable System/Lite retrofit solution.

The system is available in France, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Peru and Colombia and will be brought to other countries over the coming months.
