Diverts millions of pounds

Stryker's Sustainability Solutions division announced an agreement with Philips last week to offer its customers the option to purchase new and reprocessed Philips ECG leads for one low price.

"SUD reprocessing diverts millions of pounds of medical waste from U.S. landfills every year," Brian White, president of Stryker’s Sustainability Solutions division, told HCB News. "It’s among the most impactful hospital waste reduction initiatives."

Through this new Save Simply program, health systems are only using one vendor, so the purchasing department can cut one purchase order by utilizing one part number. This helps to maximize savings and simplify their ordering process.

The program also helps alleviate concerns about fluctuating reprocessed device inventory since all orders are filled with reprocessed SUDs and then supplemented by new devices when needed. In addition, Stryker guarantees a 100 percent fill rate.

"Another common request we receive from customers is the ability to reprocess more categories of higher-priced devices," said White. "This means we will likely see an emergence of new devices that are engineered with reprocessing in mind. I believe it will become a real competitive advantage for original manufacturers that embrace this reality."

The products eligible for this program include Philips lead sets, Philips Intellivue trunk cables, certain adapters from GE, Spacelabs, Datascope, Mindray, Draeger and Nihon Kohden, and MX40 adapters.
