Elekta has partnered with the Alliance
for Cancer Care to provide technology that
enables more precise treatment during
radiotherapy procedures
More precise treatments in radiotherapy are now available to patients at the Alliance for Cancer Care (The Alliance) as part of a new partnership between it and Elekta.
The Alliance has enhanced the quality and accuracy of treatments available to its patients by implementing software and hardware solutions produced by Elekta that offer advanced imaging, dosage and monitoring capabilities that can used in a variety of procedures.
“Elekta views its partnerships with The Alliance as a long-term collaboration that helps both organizations achieve their shared goal of providing patients with the best radiation oncology care possible,” Peter Gaccione, Elekta’s executive vice president for the North America region, told HCB News. “The opportunity to be part of that journey from the beginning of The Alliance’s initiative to upgrade their radiation oncology offerings was a perfect fit for our approach to developing tailored solutions to our customers’ needs.”
Treatment now incorporates 3-D real time imaging for improved accuracy, advanced 4-D monitoring that accounts for the potential movement of patients or tumors during treatment, and ultra low-dose imaging capabilities for minimizing unnecessary radiation exposure and side effects of radiotherapy. These enhancements can be used in a number of procedures and therapies, including stereotactic radiosurgery, stereotactic body radiation therapy and brachytherapy.
The new technology enables reductions in radiotherapy sessions to five minutes or less, compared to conventional machines. In addition, treatment machines are now equipped with customizable tools to enable personalized radiation therapy in which treatment is tailored to target specific types of cancer for improved accuracy and comfort.
The Alliance has also adopted Elekta’s software solution, MOSAIQ Oncology Analytics (MOA), for processing data to help determine best approaches for cost efficiencies and improvements in the quality of care, such as reductions in waiting times, enhancements in workflow and the elimination of bottlenecks.
“These devices give The Alliance the ability to offer the latest treatments to patients with a wide array of cancers,” said Gaccione. “Additionally, Elekta also offers a suite of software solutions that help to ensure the safe, effective and accurate use of these devices. These software solutions also help to manage patients across the entire continuum of their care experience and provide The Alliance with actionable insights into treatment patterns, referral patterns and resource utilizations.”
Elekta recently entered another
partnership with the proton therapy company Ion Beam Applications (IBA), announcing the collaboration last month at the the American Society of Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) meeting in San Diego.
The Alliance for Cancer Care did not respond for comment.
