Medic Vision announced on Wednesday that its XR-29 Dose-Check system was granted a patent by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

The SafeCT-29 product suite, which includes XR-29 Dose Check, was the first NEMA XR-29 third-party compliance solution to receive FDA clearance in May 2016. To date, it has been installed in hundred of medical care centers throughout the U.S.

SafeCT-29 connects to the CT console and analyzes dose data in real time. The users are alerted before the scan if the estimated dose levels exceed the predefined dose limits, and scanning is automatically halted until the levels are changed or justified by the user.

Eyal Aharon, CEO of Medic Vision, stated that when SafeCT-29 is added to existing CT systems, it provides compliance with the most challenging aspects of the XR-29 standard without requiring hospitals and imaging centers to purchase new CTs.

There are other third-party XR-29 compliance solutions on the market including Zetta Medical Technologies’ Z-Dose29, which received FDA clearance in April. But Medic Vision maintains that it has the only solution endorsed by the OEMs.

In September 2016, Philips Healthcare recommended SafeCT-29 to its non-compliant CT and PET/CT customers that were unable to become compliant through the OEM’s own upgrades. Richardson Healthcare also recommended SafeCT-29 to its customers in August 2016.

Medic Vision believes that the issuance of the patent will significantly boost its market position. The company also stated that “it fully expects providers of medical imaging services and solutions to respect [its] patent rights.”
