Richardson Electronics announced today the sale of its PACS Display business to Double Black Imaging for an undisclosed amount.

“The display portion of our business is small, and the decision-makers are different than those for CT tubes and replacement parts,” Patrick Fitzgerald, executive vice president and general manager of Richardson Healthcare, told HCB News. “The display business will be much better served by the combined entity now owned by Double Black Imaging.”

By selling its PACS Display business, including the Image Systems brand, the company will be able to focus on key initiatives to expand their line of CT and MR tubes and high-value replacement parts for the diagnostic imaging market.

The Image Systems product portfolio includes 2MP, 3MP, 5MP and 6MP color and gray scale displays. Also included in the sale is the CFS proprietary calibration software, which ensures all Image Systems diagnostic and clinical use displays are DICOM-compliant and properly calibrated.

Double Black Imaging is an industry-leading provider of PACS displays for the diagnostic and clinical display market. It was launched in July 2002 and is privately held by the Lloyd family in Colorado and Minnesota.

“Richardson Electronics and Double Black Imaging have enjoyed a good relationship for many years and share a very similar approach to the market,” said Fitzgerald. “We contacted DBI to see if there was an opportunity to combine our display business.”

Edward J. Richardson, chairman and CEO of Richardson Electronics, added that this deal will create a “stronger competitive environment and will be good for our diagnostic display customers.”
