In an effort to reduce data entry and the human error that can accompany it, Siemens Healthineers is integrating point-of-care test results automatically into the EHR.

In partnership with Relaymed, a Scotland-based health tech company, Siemens is connecting its DCA Vantage Analyzer and CLINITEK Status point-of-care instruments to physician office patient records through cloud-based integration technology.

The DCA Vantage Analyzer is used by three out of four physicians who perform HbA1c testing on diabetic patients in their office, according to a GHX Market Intelligence report from 2012.

The CLINITEK Status Analyzer offers point-of-care routine urinalysis to test for and detect early kidney disease and human chorionic gonadotrophin pregnancy testing.

Michael Sampson, senior vice president of NA point of care diagnostics at Siemens, said the device connectivity solution will help meet the needs of health care facilities that are "burdened with excessive administrative tasks that interrupt patient care."

It's already live at MD Medical Group in Texas on 120 devices across 30 of their locations. The practice sought the solution because their testing procedure was too time-consuming and inefficient.

Relaymed's technology is able to automatically capture all quality control samples run, and generates data analytics for CLIA compliance. It's also HIPAA-compliant and HITRUST-assured.

Christy Vedia, senior director of operations and compliance officer at MD Medical Group, noted that they found the data analytics tools to be useful in helping them understand how they can reduce reagent waste.
